Beasley's Big Band is a group of musicians dedicated to playing great big band jazz and having fun at the same time. The 19 piece big band has retained all but 5 of the original musicians since its formation. The band's membership is diverse, having an age range is 31 to 80 years old, as well as male and female, African American and white musicians.

Founded in 1991, Beasley's Big Band has played many different venues for a variety of audiences, ranging from corporate parties and ballroom dances to intimate club dates and charity functions to concerts in our city parks.

Songs we do not play: We do not play polkas and waltzes, nor do we have any "rock" music per say in our book. We have some Latin tunes, but the selection is limited.

Named as one of the Twin Cities Top Ten Cover Bands, Minneapolis/St. Paul magazine called MJO "…hep cats [that] will have you dancing the Texas Tommy and the Shim Sham to luscious covers from the big band era."

The Minnesota Jazz Orchestra has been featured at the Artist's Quarter and can be seen regularly at the Wabasha Street Caves in St. Paul. They are a member of the Twin Cities Bridal Association and can be heard regularly during Jerry Swanberg's weekly Big Band show on KBEM radio.

Parisota Hot Club is an acoustic jazz quartet; two guitars, violin and bass. Their debut CD features the music of Django Reinhardt, acoustic style swing jazz of the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s.

These guys appear to do mostly private gigs and the website may become outdated soon, but they are out there.

DEFINITION: A "Mouldy Fig" is a person who likes to play old jazz. There are 30 Figs in the Twin City area and we put the most appropriate group together for your special occasion.

INTRODUCTION ~ MOULDY FIGS: Jim Field started the Mouldy Fig Jazz Band in 1959 when he was a junior at Main Township High School in Parkridge, Illinois. A "mouldy fig" is a person who studies and plays old jazz. This term came out of the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra as was told to Jim then by author Studs Turkel.

Jim's exposure to Chicago style Jazz in the late 50's connected him with Mike McKendrick, a banjo player with Louie Armstrong. Mike taught Jim how to play the washboard. Jim still plays that same washboard that he bought for $1.50 in 1959.

The Stan and Lisa Partnership!

It was at Sving Du Nord 2005 that Lisa met Stan and they instantly sparked - not only as a dance couple but a real life couple (they are getting married summer 2007!). Together they both became a part of the Swing Cats, a local performance troupe in Minnesota headed by Cindy Gardner. It is with the Swing Cats that Stan and Lisa continued to improve their performance and teaching talents. Additionally they were recruited as one of three couples to form Minnesota's premier Lindy competition team: Flyin' Feet (also headed by Cindy Gardner).

Today Stan and Lisa continue to study many aspects of swing dancing. They are well-versed in all types of swing including the "big four" of today's swing dancing scene: Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, and Blues. Stan also has developed his original concept of rhythmology combining his love of swing with his deep experience in hip-hop and ballroom. But don't let all this experience intimidate you - together they are also one of the most fun and energetic swing couples around and are perfect for whatever your swing dancing needs are.
