Calendar Event: Tuesday, July 6, 2010 - Tuesday, July 27, 2010
Interval: 1 week
Repeat: 4x

I am not attending.

Greetings Uptown Swing fans!

July will be a special month for Uptown Swing. I’ll be teaching in Sweden for the second half of July at Herrang Dance Camp (www.herrang.com) so there will be no Lindy Hop lessons in July. Lindy Hop lessons will resume in August. But fear not! Instead, July will have two themes; the first 2 weeks will be dedicated to Charleston with Stacia & I and the 2nd two weeks will be dedicated to Solo Jazz with Stacia running the show and every week we’ll have a 1/2 hour of practice/question/dance time open to all in between lessons. Here’s the rundown:

Charleston (July 6 & 13)

The first 2 weeks in July, I will be teaching Charleston lessons with Stacia. At 7pm we’ll be teaching Charleston Basics, a class open to everyone. At 8:45pm we’ll be teaching some Charleston patterns for intermediate to advanced dancers. So come kick it up and get your sweat on with us and learn some Charleston. If you’ve never tried it before, this is your chance to learn it or if you’ve tried it before, here’s your chance to learn more, or perhaps just learn how to make it EASY!

July 6
7:00pm -- 8:15pm: Charleston Basics pt. 1
8:45pm -- 10:00pm: Charleston Fancy-time pt. 1

July 13
7:00pm -- 8:15pm: Charleston Basics pt. 2
8:45pm -- 10:00pm: Charleston Fancy-time pt. 2

Solo Jazz (July 20 & 27)

The second 2 weeks in July Stacia will be holding down the fort teaching some classic solo Jazz dances. On July 20th in the 7pm time slot Stacia will be teaching the Shim Sham, adapted from a tap line-dance by Leonard Reed and a favorite of Frankie Manning, who lead Lindy Hoppers around the world in the Shim Sham everywhere he went. On July 27th at 7pm Stacia will be teaching the Jitterbug Stroll, a line dance created by Ryan Francois and popularized by Steven Mitchell. And for the 8:45pm slot, on both July 20 & 27, Stacia will be teaching parts 1 & 2 respectively of the Tranky-Doo, a more complicated, longer solo jazz dance created by members of Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers and famously danced by Al Minns and Leon James. You should plan to come to both part 1 (July 20) and part 2 (July 27) of the Tranky Doo and know that the these will be intermediate to advanced level lessons and will likely move too fast for beginners.

July 20
7:00pm -- 8:15pm: Shim-Sham
8:45pm -- 10:00pm: Tranky-Doo pt. 1

July 27
7:00pm -- 8:15pm: Jitterbug Stroll
8:45pm -- 10:00pm: Tranky-Doo pt. 2

Please register in advance if you plan on coming. There is no online pay this session and registering in advance gives us some idea of who’s coming, the leader/follower balance, and it makes your experience checking in for class much faster and easier.

Thanks everyone! We hope you are as stoked about these special classes as we are! We’ll get back to good old Lindy Hop lessons again in August.
