UPDATE: Erin Schwab will be singing with the Hot Club! I'm sure some of you remember from Showdown how awesome their Small Swing Combo is. So if you come to Jump, Jive, 'n' Jazz on Saturday you'll get a taste of that again, right at the low point in between Showdown 2006 and Showdown 2007. |

| hope to see you all out tonight! For those in need of directions, here's a map of Macalester: http://www.macalester.edu/about/mapbynumber.html. Kagin Ballroom is in building number 42, on the second floor. The entrance is on the southwest corner of the building -- the one farthest from the Summit and Snelling intersection. |

Hey everyone,
thanks to those who came out last week to our dance! For those of you who were there, or at Jump, Jive, 'n' Jazz last fall, you remember how awesome the Feathershot Quartet is (they're a Macalester student combo). Well, they, and various other Mac jazz groups including the Mac Jazz Big Band, are playing at Famous Dave's on Thursday! The big band, at least, and I believe some of the combos as well, will be playing a fair number of swing tunes, and there is a dance floor at Famous Dave's.
Where: Famous Dave's at Hennepin and Lake in Minneapolis
When: This Thursday, April 26, 9 PM-12:30 AM (so hop on over on your way to Tapestry!)
Hope to see you there! |

| Are you in any of these groups? I used to be in the big band. We only played swing once a year - for the Senior Dance! The rest of the time we played weird free jazz (think Sun Ra) type stuff - and Carleton Macy's experimental pieces. He had one that was 15 minutes of silence with a cymbal clink midway thru. That piece actually got "played" on NPR! |

| I am in the jazz band. Carleton's not directing the jazz band anymore; instead, it's Joan Griffith. Under her we play a fair amount of swing or swing-able charts; we'll be playing some Ellington (Koko, Concerto for Cootie) and Corner Pocket, and a couple more charts that I think are totally danceable. The Feathershot Quartet tends to play more funk-type charts, but they can (and may, if there are dancers in the house) play some killer swing stuff as well! |
