Stacia Martin

Stacia wants you to know that she is a dancer because it makes her heart sing. She began dancing in Tampa in 2001 and has been spellbound ever since. She has performed at various events in Florida, at the Oakland Swing Dance Festival and most recently at the Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown. She has been known to compete on occasion, but is most passionate about the thrill of social dancing and sweating and the magical glittery joy that it produces. In her teaching, she'll admit that her first love is to focus on the intangible and elusive art of connection and plain ol' leading/following.

Jason Zabinski

Jason has performed and taught from Harlem to California. He began dancing Lindy Hop in 1998 and has been teaching since 1999. Jason has been dancing Lindy Hop since 1998, and teaching on and off since 1999. As a teacher he brings his enthusiasm and joy of movement to his students. Jason's style is based on using strong lead and follow technique to connect with his partner and the music. He has an extensive knowledge of the dance and its history that he uses to preserve the wild excitement and energy of Swing in his dancing.

Class Descriptions

Monday, November 3rd
Slow & Pretty Monday, November 3rd, 800p-900p
Ever found yourself ill-equipped for a slower song? Dancing to different tempos successfully involves using your body in new/different ways. Certain moves or styling don't always work or communicate the music when the tempo slows down. In this class, we'll help you hit the brakes and keep it slow and pretty.

Hellzapoppin./Day at the Races/Hot Chocolate Monday, November 3rd, 900p-1000p
We'll be adventuring back through time in this class. You.ll leave with the ability to "quote" original movements from some of the founders of lindy hop and vernacular jazz dance. Missing studying up on this is like calling yourself a writer and only reading contemporary pieces. This will be fun, and will add to your vocabulary.

Monday, November 10th
Jazzing Up Your Lindy Hop Monday, November 10th, 800p-900p
Ever wondered how to merge your solo dancing vocabulary with partner dancing? This is one of the coolest aspects of doing an improvisational dance like lindy hop: you can make it your own! Figure out how to make a movement fit within your swing-out (etc.) and also how to lead/follow it well, and you.re all set! Slipping snippets of jazz movement into lindy hop is fun and when leads surprise me with it, I laugh like a school girl. In a good way. We.ll get you started with some concepts and movements in this class, and help you to think outside the box when expanding your lindy hop.

Tranky Doo Monday, November 10th, 900p-1000p
Learn for the first time OR refine & polish your understanding of the Tranky Doo. This is another example of classic repertoire that will increase your vocab. and grasp of dancing. The Tranky Doo is something you can always use as a performance piece or even chop it up into cool phrases that you can throw down in a jam.

Monday, November 17th
Call & Response Monday, November 17th, 800p-900p
Play with your partner! In this class, we.ll focus on how to augment your ability to connect with your partner. This is great for both leads and follows to be able to have fun interactive .conversations. in every dance.

20's Charleston Monday, November 17th, 900p-1000p
All 20.s Charleston, all the time, folks. We.ll cover connection, style, cool moves and fancy footwork all in one fail swoop. Come and git it!

Monday, November 24th
Dancing Through Missed Connections (Freestyle) Monday, November 24th, 800p-900p
Pssst. Jason and Stacia make funny mistakes all the time in their dancing!! But you may not see them or pick up on our .missed connections. because we just keep right on dancing and improvise as we go. This is really cool because it takes the pressure off of worrying about mistakes or fumbles and also keeps things very interesting. We.ll talk about how we do this as lead and follow and share with you some ideas to try for yourself.

Showmanship . Learning to Shine Monday, November 24th, 900p-1000p
Here we.re gonna share with you the secrets of what we look for in performances and competitions! Many times, really talented dancers don.t get noticed, or they don.t get chosen as finalists in competitions, and end up wondering why? Often times, there are small details that can really help to make a difference. We.d like to help you improve your showmanship and give you some tools to really shine in any environment.
